About Overseas Jobs

Many New Zealanders choose to work overseas, either as part of their big OE, for professional development, or to meet overseas needs for skills. You can apply for and secure overseas jobs from New Zealand to help you feel more confident about moving elsewhere. Many companies and organisations will also help with relocation and living costs for the right candidate.

According to international database Statista, New Zealand is the country with the second highest number of expatriate workers. We’re a nation of people who love to travel.

Options for Jobs Overseas

New Zealand maintains special economic relationships with a number of countries which allows citizens to legally travel to work overseas for periods of time. New Zealanders may apply for permanent residency in Australia as part of the special economic relationship between the two countries, and this is a popular option for people who wish to travel abroad.

We have 12 month working holiday visa exchange partnerships with a large number of countries throughout the world. Generally, you need to be between 18 and 30 years old, meet some basic health requirements and be able to support yourself financially in the short term.

For certain industries - medical professionals and academics, for instance - recruitment specialists are available to assist in handling your visa processing, accommodation and banking setup. Specialist recruitment agencies are available to assist you in getting seasonal or hospitality work. In all cases, it is important to be aware of tax regulations before heading off overseas, as some countries have double-tax agreements with New Zealand,

For graduates going abroad for work, remember that if you are outside New Zealand for more than 180 days, your student loan will no longer be tax free.

Working in the UK

Whilst New Zealanders generally do not need a visa before entering the UK on holiday, there are circumstances when you may need to obtain one before you travel. If you have a criminal record, for example, or you have previously been refused permission to enter the UK, you may not be able to get a job in the UK.

You will need a visa if you want to come here in some categories of visitor, such as a visitor for marriage or civil partnership.

To live, study and work in the UK you must obtain the necessary visa before you arrive in the country.
